Yogyakarta, often referred to as Jogja or Yogya, is a vibrant cultural, intellectual, and literary center located in Central Java, Indonesia. Known as the heart of Indonesian tradition, it is just a short flight from Jakarta, and easily accessible from other popular tourist destinations like Bali and Singapore. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the south and the active Mount Merapi volcano to the north, Yogyakarta is also home to Indonesia's largest Hindu temple complex, Prambanan. Its proximity to Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple, highlights the region’s multicultural character, despite Jogja being predominantly a Muslim community.
